TIME OUT IDEAS WHEN VISITING ROME WITH KIDS
If you’re in Rome you’re probably starting to get it now…Rome is a lot to take in! Especially if you’re travelling with kids, it can be quite tiring to visit the huge amount of museums, statues, churches etc. The good news is there’s plenty of stuff that kids can do to sprinkle some fun during long days of walking around town.
All the images you can see in this blog entry are analog pictures taken on different trips since we visit Rome pretty often. On a visit a little more than a year ago I recorded some clips as well, playing with a toy plastic lens on a digital camera.
From experience kids inevitably get tired of visiting historical landmarks and (gorgeous) churches sooner or later. As interesting and full of wonders as Rome can be, it will come to a point when they’ll need some time and space to shake it off. We found out that a perfect spot to do so can is located in the heart of the city: villa Borghese.
A place full of wonder, for kids and grown-ups as well, in the heart of Rome
The name could make you think of some antique house, full of things your kids can easily break into a thousand pieces. Fear not, it’s not -only- that. Around villa Borghese there’s a huge park, full of amenities for little ones and grown-ups as well! Last time we went, it was a warm november, we visited the zoo and the kids were enthusiastic!
You can find more info here: https://www.bioparco.it/en/home/ and you can eat inside the bioparco as it offers a few options for a quick lunch/snack. We stayed inside for a few hours then managed to visit a museum my husband and I were interested in. We had not our stroller with us (our then almost 3 y/o was already not using it for a long time, so we didn’t bother bringing it, ooops wrong call that costed my husband some back pain.
Not only the zoo, other fun activities for a nice time out when visiting Rome with kids
The zoo wasn’t the only place we visited in the villa Borghese park. But I should probably tell you something about mobility first. There are a couple of spots where you can rent golf cars, rickshaws and even a small lake where you can rent a small rowing boat.
One last but very precious advice is to keep an eye on shows at the Sancarlino puppet theatre, the website seems to be in italian only, but the upcoming dates and shows are there, we never caught a play while there, but it seems like it’s a very valuable and entertaining experience for little ones (I suspect it would be for us grown-ups as well!)
Hope you have the time of your life when visiting Rome with your kids. If you need someone to keep those memories last forever, don’t esitate to keep in touch with me, I’m always down for some time in Rome 🙂
