engagement in the Dolomites: inspo and tips
I could think about it all day long, but seriously, I don't think there's a better place than the Dolomites for an engagement. If you're reading this, there's a good chance you're with me on this one, right?? Then let me tell you what are the three thing you should absolutely know when you're setting up the perfect moment to pop the big question.
Surprise or organised engagement in the Dolomites? Don't miss this...
You might be asking yourself why I do feel entitled to give suggestions about the topic. Well, know that I helped a number of people organising their engagement photosession right after a proposal with the breathtaking Dolomites views as witnesses... So here it goes: the first thing you need to know and be prepared for (that I might mention in a number of other blog posts as well) is that peak season gets really packed with tourists. I've seen (and waited as a photographer) IN LINE (!) to wait for our turn to climb on the mythic steps leading to the Cadini di Misurina viewpoint. You are warned, at this point.
That alone would also be a good reason to hire someone local that can suggest some more private spot for the special moment of an engagement in the Dolomites mountains, especially if you're more into intimate and raw moments. Also, try and look at off-season time of year, I promise it is worth it! My suggestions for the time of year and the perfect engagement in the Dolomites are:
Early morning is always a BIG yes!
-
- the beginning of June, or as soon as cables are working if that's your case
-
- end of October/beginning of November with beautiful fall colours
Early morning is always a BIG yes!
If you avoid the main viewpoint at the Cadini di Misurina, there's another place in the area that can serve the purpose pretty well, showing the same LOTR-vibe Dolomites view, allowing you for a little bit of privacy for the proposal. If interested you can then go climb the "famous" spot for a couple of pictures more. Don't be tempted to ask the question where it's most expected 😉
Alpe di Siusi is pretty complicated to travel around, so make sure the timing and the day allows for every minute you need, if this is your top pick (I'll admit the background for a proposal is pretty epic there and the short hike isn't really demanding at all, but that make it also pretty crowded)
When you've decided the place, the time, oh, well, of course, the words, here's my last bit of advice. Prepare some little surprise for the after. Out of experience, the one asking the question can be quite nervous up until the wedding proposal hits, then it's aaaaaall easy and romantic and nice. But then it's the other person turn to feel butterflies in the stomach! Some nice ideas the Dolomites can easily deliver:
-
- propose after a nice and short hike in the Dolomites, so that you keep the stamina high until you're back after the proposal key moment
-
- pic-nic after the "yes, I do!", it's always nice to have something bubbly to cheer on 🙂
-
- some other unique experience your photographer/planner will suggest
This will allow both to process what just happened and cement that memory forever.
Oh, you're asking me where would I be getting engaged in the Dolomites?
No doubt about that, right here:
If you got everything covered for, you might want to have a cherry on top. Having a photographer for your proposal in the Dolomites is something you're gonna be pretty thankful of 🙂 from covering the moment to help you through the process...I'm there for you, with all my knowledge of the area!
